So, here’s the scoop: Nextdoor has this cool feature that allows public agencies like city councils and police forces to send out emergency alerts. We’re talking about important stuff like heat warnings, tornado alerts, or even riot updates. It’s a great way for authorities to keep us informed when things get dicey.
How Does It Work?
Now, before you get too excited, I should mention that this feature isn’t available everywhere. Public agencies need to apply for an account and keep it updated regularly. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! There’s a URL where agencies can request a public agency page. I’ve seen some great examples of active public agencies in Calgary and Vancouver using this feature effectively.
The Current State of Emergency Alerts
Here’s where things get interesting. I’ve noticed that some police forces, especially in the US and France, have created accounts but aren’t keeping them as active as they could be. The last post from a US police force was in 2022, and in France, it was way back in July 2020. That’s a missed opportunity if you ask me!
